My writing journey

My passion for writing began in my teens. I wrote furtively

whilst attending drama school. Following many years of

acting, my writing took precedence and I immersed myself in

the study of screenwriting, attending numerous courses

including Robert McKee's 'Story', Arista Story Development,

and David Freeman's 'Beyond Structure'.

However, the desire to write prose was ever present. Some

years ago I wrote a couple of short stories, one of which

I entered into the Cambridge short story prize and was

delighted to have been shortlisted. That clinched it. I

embarked on an MA in creative writing at Chichester

University which I completed in May of this year, 2023, receiving a distinction for my dissertation.

I am now completing my first novel and working on a number of short stories.

My past screenwriting experience includes:

- Wrote and acted in a one-hour teleplay ‘Under the Skin’, screened at the Raindance Film Festival.

- A short film 'Rift', which I wrote and directed, was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

- In 2008, I was one of 8 women screenwriters selected for the inaugural 'Athena-The business of Screenwriting’ run by Initialize Films.

- In 2009, I co-wrote a pilot for a TV series 'Golden Age' along with David Skynner, writer/director of the Bafta-winning series 'The Giblet Boys'.

- In 2010, I was commissioned to adapt the prize-winning novel 'The Way of the Women' by Marlene Van Niekerk for producer Patrick Holzen. My screenplay attracted producer Mark R Harris (Gods and Monsters/Crash) to co-produce.

- Wrote a pilot episode for an animated children's TV series for producer Jonquil Cooper.

- Wrote a short film 'The Gift' for director John Quarrell of QProductions. The film was shown at numerous festivals, including the Winchester Short Film Festival.

- A two-part TV psychological thriller 'The Shadow Player' reached the semi-finals of the 2015 Screenwriting Goldmine Competition.

- A short film screenplay 'Stain of Honour', dealing with the atrocity of honour killing, reached the quarter-finals of the 2016 Shore Scripts Screenwriting Competition.

Over the years, I have written numerous spec feature screenplays including 'The Pearl Fisher' and a rom-com '24 Little Hours', both of which have gained interest.
